Chicago men charged with murder in separate cases

Two Chicago men have been charged with murder in separate cases, including a fatal stabbing this week and the March shooting death of a 17-year-old boy, police said.

Fatal stabbing in Little Village

David Wilcox, 59, is charged with first-degree murder and another felony murder count in connection with the death of a 61-year-old woman.

Chicago police said officers responded to a home in the 2500 block of South Christiana Avenue in Little Village around 11:30 p.m. Tuesday for a report of a person stabbed.

Officers found the woman unresponsive inside the home with multiple puncture wounds. She died at the scene. Her identity has not yet been released.

Wilcox was also found with multiple cuts and was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital in serious condition, according to police.

Police said a weapon was recovered at the scene.

Teen fatally shot in Montclare

In a separate case, Michael Cano, 29, is charged with first-degree murder in the fatal shooting of 17-year-old Jair Salinas.

Police said officers found Salinas lying unresponsive in the street in the 6700 block of West Grand Avenue in Montclare around 12:49 a.m. on March 27.

Salinas had been shot multiple times and was taken to Loyola University Medical Center, where he died.

Police said Cano was identified as the person responsible for the shooting and was arrested Wednesday at 5:25 p.m. in the 2800 block of West Fullerton Avenue in Logan Square.

Cano also faces a felony drug possession charge, according to police.

What's next:

Cano was due in court Friday for a detention hearing.

Police did not provide court information for Wilcox.

Arrest histories

Chicago police records show Cano has been arrested at least seven times since 2016. Those arrests included allegations involving battery, drug possession and gun offenses, as well as a 2024 arrest for driving a vehicle with canceled, suspended or revoked registration. His most recent listed arrest before the murder case was in May 2026 on a battery allegation.

Police records show Wilcox was previously arrested in October 2015 on an attempted possession of a controlled substance charge.
