Chicago man charged after stolen gun found during court-ordered eviction

CHICAGO - A Chicago man is facing a felony charge after sheriff's police found a loaded, stolen gun while carrying out a court-ordered eviction last week, according to the Cook County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies were enforcing a court order around 11:50 a.m. Aug. 13 in the 8900 block of South Dauphin Avenue in Burnside when they recovered the firearm.
The sheriff's office said deputies later learned the gun had been reported stolen from Streator, Illinois.
Two residents were taken into custody.
Following an investigation, 41-year-old Kenneth McGee was charged with possession of a firearm by a repeat felony offender.
A second resident, 31-year-old Alexis Harris, was processed on an outstanding warrant from DuPage County, according to the sheriff's office.
What's next:
McGee was ordered to remain in custody at the Cook County Jail on Aug. 14 following his first court appearance in Markham.
He is due back in court Aug. 27.
Arrest history
Chicago police records show McGee has been arrested by the department at least four times since 2014. Those arrests include a 2014 gun case, drug possession arrests in 2017 and 2020, and a 2024 arrest involving a vehicle title or registration offense.
