Large pothole reported on I-55 in Bolingbrook

A large pothole was reported Monday on Interstate 55 in Bolingbrook.

The pothole was located in the southbound lanes of I-55 near milepost 266.

Potholes like this one can break your car, and your budget.

"I found myself on I-55 today almost near the same area. It was so big I could see the rebar in the road, that’s how deep it was," said Al Belin, owner of Apex Limo Services, Inc.

Belin says the pothole on I-55 brought about flashbacks.

"I had two blow outs, two bent rims and a broken axle," he said.

Belin was right outside Bolingbrook almost a year ago when he hit a pothole. It forced him to put the brakes on his delivery services.

Belin filed a claim with the Illinoid Department of Transportation, but never heard back.

"An excess of four-thousand dollars in damages to my car, I was out of service for at least 2 months," Belin said.

Illinois State Police had to man the scene, shutting down southbound lanes two and three until IDOT could make repairs.

Stacy Everett, the owner of Stacy’s Automotive Repair in Park Forest, says the damages can be costly and insurance doesn’t always cover everything.

"It can cost $200 or $6,000. Depends on what kind of car it is. German vehicle or domestic vehicles. Some cars lose the wheel. Some people lost control and the car is totaled," Everett said.

IDOT will work with motorists who believe their vehicles were damaged. The procedure is to file a claim with IDOT.
