Man extracted from windshield, arrested after Bridgeview crash

CHICAGO (STMW) - A man who was injured and had to be extracted from the windshield of a car after a crash late Friday in southwest suburban Bridgeview was arrested for public intoxication.
Sonny R. Whitehead, 26, was crossing the street in the 8400 block of Harlem Avenue around 11:40 p.m. when he was struck by 1996 Ford Taurus attempting to swerve around him, police said. He was stuck in the windshield and had to be extracted.
He was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where he was treated for head injuries and broken bones, police said. After police discovered his blood alcohol level was 0.245, he was charged with being intoxicated in a roadway and improper crossing of a roadway – both misdemeanors.
The 55-year-old man driving the Ford Taurus was released without charges, police said.
