According to The Post and Courier in South Carolina, Cole Poplin of Renegade Bowfishing told the news outlet that he had spotted Snaggletooth routinely, but his chance to pursue the huge animal was limited since alligator-hunting season happens from the second Saturday of September to the second Saturday of October annually.

While Snaggletooth is massive, the alligator is not the largest to have been caught in South Carolina.

In 2010, Maryellen Mara-Christian from Massachusetts caught a 1,025-pound, 13-foot alligator in Lake Moultrie.
