OAK BROOK, Ill. - Four Venezuelan migrants are facing multiple charges after allegedly stealing nearly $5,000 worth of sunglasses from the Oak Brook Sunglass Hut on Monday afternoon.

What we know:
Jaidera Rincon-Jaramillo, 24, with no known address; Jonamer Barrios-Moreno, 28, of Chicago; Gregory Mendoza-Rivas, 25, with no known address; and David Vivas-Esis, 21, of Chicago, were each charged with one count of burglary, one count of robbery and one count of retail theft.
Additionally, Rincon-Jaramillo and Barrios-Moreno are each charged with one count of aggravated fleeing and eluding.
The incident occurred just after 2:30 p.m. on Monday when Oak Brook police officers were alerted to suspicious activity involving a silver Ford Fusion parked in the Oak Brook Mall parking lot.
Officers began surveillance and were later notified by employees at Sunglass Hut about three people, later identified as Mendoza-Rivas, Barrios-Moreno, and Vivas-Esis, along with an unidentified accomplice, entering the store.
The suspects allegedly selected 13 pairs of sunglasses valued at approximately $4,960 and attempted to leave the store without paying.
After a brief struggle in which they pulled an employee to the ground, the suspects fled the store.
Mendoza-Rivas, Barrios-Moreno, and Vivas-Esis returned to the Ford, while the unknown accomplice fled into the mall, prosecutors said.
As officers activated their emergency lights and sirens, the suspects allegedly fled in the Ford, driven by Rincon-Jaramillo.
The vehicle reached speeds of approximately 93 mph on Butterfield Road and ultimately exited onto I-290.
After officers deployed spike strips, the vehicle exited the expressway at southbound Manheim Road and eventually stopped on Harrison, where all four men were taken into custody.
What they're saying:
DuPage County State's Attorney Robert Berlin said this type of behavior will not be tolerated.
"It is alleged that these defendants helped themselves to nearly $5,000 dollars’ worth of merchandise from the Sunglass Hut, got into a physical altercation with the store clerk, pulling her to the ground, and simply walked out the door without paying," said State's Attorney Robert Berlin. "To make matters worse, it is alleged that the driver of their getaway vehicle, Jaidera Rincon-Jaramillo, then led police on a high-speed chase, reaching speeds of approximately 93 mph, during a crowded holiday afternoon. This type of behavior that puts the general public as well as innocent motorists at risk will not be tolerated in DuPage County."
What's next:
A judge granted the state's motion to detain the four men. The next court date for each defendant is scheduled for Feb. 18.
