Officials: Female jail cook charged with rape after having sex with inmates

CANTON, N.Y. (AP) - Authorities say the former head cook at a northern New York county jail has been indicted on rape and other charges for having sex with inmates who worked in the facility's kitchen.

State Attorney General Barbara Underwood announced Thursday that 43-year-old Jennifer Parker was indicted by a St. Lawrence County grand jury on multiple counts of rape, criminal sexual act, promoting prison contraband, forcible touching, and official misconduct.

Parker is accused of having sex with three inmates who worked for her at the St. Lawrence County Correctional Facility in Canton, where she was kitchen supervisor from 2010 until last June. Under state law, inmates are incapable of consent.

Parker pleaded not guilty at her arraignment Thursday in county court and was released to probation supervision.

A message left wither her attorney wasn't immediately returned.
