Ohio man arrested after foot chase across Indiana interstate, trying to drive car off tow truck
INDIANA - An Ohio man is in custody after leading Indiana State Police on a lengthy foot chase across I-65 and attempting to drive his car off a tow truck.
What we know
The incident occurred Friday on southbound I-65 near mile-marker 206, just north of the Rensselaer/Remington exit.
A 2008 Toyota Camry crashed and sustained minor damage. No other vehicle was involved.
During the crash investigation, Indiana State Police learned the driver was lying about his identity and was wanted in Ohio for a probation violation related to past violent crimes.
The driver, identified as 52-year-old Carlos Sept of Dayton, Ohio, forcibly pulled away from officers trying to detain him.
Foot chase ensues
Sept ran across all lanes of I-65 in inclement weather, nearly causing several accidents, according to state police. He then ran into a ditch and a field.
A trooper relocated Sept’s vehicle to the northbound side and was preparing to use his K9 partner to track him down when Sept reemerged from the ditch, crossed the interstate again, and attempted to drive his car off a tow truck. The tow truck driver fled on foot.
Sept eventually surrendered to police and was taken into custody.
Slew of charges
Sept was found to be in possession of marijuana and suspected heroin, according to Indiana State Police.
He was transported to the Jasper County Jail on several charges:
- Possession of a controlled substance- Level 6 felony
- Intimidation- Level 6 felony
- False identity statement- Class A misdemeanor
- Resisting law enforcement- Class A misdemeanor
- Possession of marijuana- Class A misdemeanor
Sept's final charges will be determined by the Jasper County prosecutor.
