Phone scammers impersonating Oak Park police, demanding payment

OAK PARK, Ill. - Oak Park police are warning residents about a new phone scam involving callers impersonating officers.

What we know 

Oak Park police took to social media Saturday to warn residents about the new phone scam.

Several residents reported receiving calls from someone impersonating a sergeant from the Oak Park Police Department.

The caller demanded immediate payment to avoid arrest for a citation or warrant, police said.

This is a scam and not a legitimate call. 

What to do 

Authorities advise residents not to provide payment or financial information over the phone.
