Police: 4 dead, 8 wounded in Tuesday shootings
CHICAGO (STMW) - Two teens and two men were killed and at least eight other people were wounded in South, West and Southwest Side shootings Tuesday, police said.
Three teens were standing on a corner in the 7600 block of South Dorchester about 3:30 p.m. when a vehicle pulled up and someone inside started shooting, according to Chicago Police.
A 16-year-old boy shot in the head and a 17-year-old girl shot twice in the chest were taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where they died within the hour, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The boy who was killed lived in the 7800 block of South Cregier, and the girl in the 9000 block of South Burley, authorities said. Their names were withheld Tuesday night.
Another 16-year-old boy shot in the hand was taken to St. Bernard Hospital. His condition stabilized, police said.
Investigators think the shooting was gang-related.
A man was killed in a Brighton Park neighborhood shooting Tuesday night on the Southwest Side, police said.
The 25-year-old was getting out of a vehicle in the 4600 block of South Talman about 8:20 p.m. when someone in another passing vehicle shot him in the stomach, police said.
The male victim was initially in critical condition to Mount Sinai Hospital, but later died, police said.
A man was killed in a Back of the Yards neighborhood shooting Tuesday night on the South Side, police said.
The 25-year-old was in an apartment in the 2000 block of West 52nd Place about 8:21 p.m. when he and another person got into a fight, police said. The other person then shot him in the face.
He was taken to Stroger Hospital, where he later died, police said.
The most recent nonfatal shooting happened in the Little Village neighborhood on the Southwest Side.
About 6:45 p.m., the 23-year-old was shot in the leg, ankle and buttocks in the 2800 block of South Keeler, police said.
He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, where his condition was stabilized, police said.
Ten minutes earlier, a man was shot in Bronzeville. About 6:35 p.m., the 25-year-old was shot in the arm in the 600 block of East 47th Street. He was taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital, where his condition had stabilized, police said.
About 5:35 p.m., a 17-year-old boy was in the 1600 block of North McVicker in the Galewood neighborhood when someone walked up and shot him twice in the chest and once in the buttocks, police said. He was taken to Loyola University Medical Center in Maywood in critical condition.
A 20-year-old man was riding in a car in the 300 block of North Central in the Austin neighborhood at 4:52 p.m. when someone started shooting into the vehicle from the sidewalk, according to Chicago Police. The driver took him to West Suburban Medical Center in Oak Park, where he was listed in good condition.
About 12:25 p.m., an 18-year-old man was shot in the thigh in the 7400 block of South Blackstone about 12:25 p.m., according to police. He was dropped off at Jackson Park Hospital, where he was listed in good condition.
Tuesday morning, a 26-year-old man was shot in the abdomen in the West Garfield Park neighborhood. The shooting happened at 7:25 a.m. in the 4000 block of West Madison, according to Chicago Police. He was taken in serious condition to Mount Sinai Hospital.
The day’s first shooting occurred about 6:40 a.m., also in West Garfield Park. A 43-year-old man told investigators that he was standing near his vehicle in the 4400 block of West Monroe when someone opened fire, according to police. He suffered gunshot wounds to the right side of his torso and his right arm, and he drove himself to the Harrison District police station for help. His condition later was stabilized at Mount Sinai, police said.
