A man robbed a clothing store Friday night in west suburban Elmhurst.

About 8:25 p.m., the man entered the Dress Barn store in the 100 block of South Route 83 and told employees he was looking for a dress for his wife, according to a statement from Elmhurst police.

There were other customers inside the store and he left, police said. A few minutes later, after the other customers had left, the man returned, announced a robbery and implied he had a weapon.

The suspect gathered the employees into a bathroom after they opened the cash registers, police said. He ran away from the store and was last seen heading north.

He was described as a 5-foot-8, 200-pound black man with large build, short black hair and clean-shaven face, police said. He was last seen wearing a dark gray hooded sweatshirt, army green pants, and a black, gray and red baseball cap.
