Police search for driver in hit-and-run crash that killed elderly man

CHICAGO (STMW) - Police are searching for the driver of a light-colored SUV that fatally struck an elderly man last week in the Jefferson Park neighborhood on the Northwest Side.
About 8:20 p.m. Dec. 4, the SUV was southbound on North Central Avenue when it struck 76-year-old Carroll Brown, who was attempting to cross the street eastbound on West Ainslie Street, according to Chicago Police and the Cook County medical examiner’s office.
The vehicle sped away after the crash, police said.
Brown, who lived in the 4900 block of North Central Avenue, was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, where he was pronounced dead at 2 a.m. Sunday, the medical examiner’s office said. An autopsy Monday showed he died of multiple blunt force injuries suffered in the crash and his death was ruled an accident.
The police Major Accidents Investigation Unit is investigating the incident.
