Rideshare passenger shot on I-94 on Chicago’s South Side

A passenger was in the backseat of a rideshare car when they were shot early Saturday morning on Interstate 94 on Chicago’s South Side.

Illinois State Police troopers responded to the scene in the I-94 northbound lanes at 53rd Street just before 1 a.m.

The driver told ISP troopers they were shot at and the passenger was hit, ISP said. The passenger was taken to a local hospital. State police did not have information on their condition.

The car was reportedly struck by more than 26 bullets during the shooting.

Authorities closed the interstate near 53rd Street for an investigation and reopened it a little over three hours later.
