Shoppers hit the mall early for Black Friday deals
CHICAGO (FOX 32 News/ AP) - Let the Black Friday bargain hunting begin!
Black Friday is the Super Bowl of shopping days for shopaholics. Big chain stores, like Macy's, J.C. Penney, Wal-Mart and Target, opened their doors on Thanksgiving Day for those who wanted to get their post-turkey shop on.
But the day after Thanksgiving is typically the biggest shopping day of the year. And for a decade, it had been considered the official start of the holiday buying season.
The National Retail Federation estimates that about 135.8 million consumers will be shopping during the four-day weekend, compared with 133.7 million last year. The group also expects sales in November and December of this year to be $630.5 billion, up 3.7 percent from the last two months of the year in 2014.
FOX 32's Jake Hamilton headed out to Woodfield Mall in Schaumburg early Friday morning, where shoppers were up and at it early in search of deals.
