Singer and producer Jack Red: A rising star in Chicago

Born into a musical family, Jack Red was always surrounded by the sounds of Motown and the music coming out of Chicago, with his parents encouraging him to follow in their footsteps

“I was opened up to a lot of different ensembles and groups and things at a very early age.”

It was at the Merit School of Music, a non-profit organization in Chicago that provides music education for young musicians, where Jack Red began to cultivate his wide array of musical talents.

After graduating from Kenwood Academy, Red took his interests to Columbia College which led to an internship and soon a full-time job as a recording engineer at the legendary Sound Scape Studio in Humboldt Park. It was there he crossed paths with some big names in the hip-hop world like Vic Mensa, Chance The Rapper and Wyclef Jean.

“Pulling a tip from this artist and that artist and seeing how they get that idea,” Red said. “I just learn what I can to make music that’s unique to me."

One thing setting Jack Red apart from his contemporaries is his relationship with his high school sweetheart and now wife, Kia.

On his new EP, "Holy Affair,”  Red divulges into the obstacles marriage and life can bring.

In spite of life's challenges and his growing celebrity, Jack Red has not forgotten his roots. In 2016 he started Rhyme Room, an organization that helps Chicago youth develop their own musical creativity.

“It’s a great feeling to be in such great company. There’s something about Chicago that makes us who we are," Red said.
