CHICAGO (AP) — A gunman has shot a 15-year-old boy in the neck in Chicago's Englewood neighborhood.

The teen was hospitalized in critical condition.

Police say the shooting happened Tuesday night. No one was in custody as of Wednesday morning.

The boy's family identified him as Corey Strother Jr. and said he was helping two young nieces get out of a car in front of his home when the gunman stepped out from a black SUV and shot him.

Relatives tell the Chicago Tribune that one of the teen's sisters pleaded with the gunman, saying "Please don't do this to my brother. Please don't shoot."

Another sister, Brianna Young, said the assailant wasn't trying to rob them. She said he targeted the wrong person.

No one else was hurt.
