A student from metro Atlanta has died in a shooting at a college campus in Savannah.

Christopher Starks, who had just started his junior year at Savannah State University, was shot on campus Thursday night after a fight at the student union. He was the only one hurt and passed away at the hospital in Savannah early Friday morning. He had just turned 22-years-old ten days ago. We've learned Starks was a standout athlete at Miller Grove High School in Lithonia.

The shooting violence prompted a lockdown on campus that's since been lifted, but the search for the shooter is still taking place. The university said classes are delayed until 10:00 a.m. Friday morning.

"The safety of those who live, study, work and visit Savannah State University remains a top priority," officials with the university. "No exceptions."

A vigil will take place on campus Friday to remember Starks. It's set for noon.

Thursday night, Savannah State University posted on their Facebook page that "SSU campus is on lockdown following a shooting incident at/near the Student Union. Please stay in place and cooperate with police officers."

The Tiger's Roar said that officials were searching for a man in the University Commons area.

Vehicles were briefing blocked from entering and exiting the campus while police searched the area.

Established in 1890, Savannah State is a historically black university with a total enrollment of approximately 5,000 students.
