Warehouse where Chicago firefighter died to be demolished

CHICAGO (AP) — The warehouse where a Chicago firefighter died last month on the city's South Side will be demolished.

Patrick Cummings is the attorney who represents building owner Anilroshi. Cummings said Wednesday that "it's a matter of doing what's right." Firefighter Daniel Capuano, a father of three, died Dec. 14 when he fell down an elevator shaft while battling a blaze at the warehouse. The city had filed an emergency motion to destroy the warehouse a day after Capuano's death.

The owners will pay for the demolition. Cummings said the owners will start the demolition permit process. However he says razing the building will be a complicated process because the property is near a Metra commuter rail station.

Capuano's wife has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the building owner. It is pending.
