Wheaton Restaurant Week embraces diverse lineup of food and drinks
WHEATON, Ill. - Restaurant weeks are popping up everywhere these days— and Wheaton’s version is picking up steam every year.
More than 20 restaurants are offering special menus and discounts from Jan. 16-26 hoping to lure new customers.
One of the newer spots, Mexican eatery Sweetchilango, opened only six months ago.
Owner Julio Cano, described one of their restaurant week specials.
"This a plato, which is rice beans and a guisado, a Mexican soda and a churro ice cream. It’s a complete meal for $20.99."
Cano said guisados are a very popular dish from Mexico City, where the restaurant's staff was born and raised. He said guisados show off the versatility of Mexican food
"Guisados could be vegetarian. They could be made out of chicken, beef, some kind of protein … and we can put it either on a plate, on an enchilada, or in a taco. And on the weekend we can do it on chilaquiles."
Adelle’s Modern Kitchen and Bar also has tasty restaurant week offerings from pistachio-topped burrata to a rolled chicken dish served on polenta and a banana pudding parfait with blueberry muffin crumbles.
Owner Debbie Williams said the hot toddy is a special recipe that hits perfectly on a cold night. She added the restaurant is also showing off some remodeling.
