Woman, 76, fatally struck by semi-truck near West Side grocery store: police
CHICAGO - A woman was killed after being struck by a semi-truck Saturday morning near a grocery store on the Near West Side, authorities said.

What we know:
The incident happened at 8:45 a.m. in the 0-100 block of S. Western Avenue near Pete's Fresh Market.
Witnesses said the 76-year-old woman had just left the store and was pushing a cart when she darted across the street.
Chicago police said the northbound semi-truck hit her as she entered the street.
"Everybody was saying, ‘stop’ but it was too late – he'd already hit her and then he dragged her almost to the corner," said a witness, Sandra Ramsey. "She walked in the middle of the street."
The truck driver remained on the scene for several hours as police investigated the crash.
Authorities said the woman was transported to Stroger Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. She was identified as Hattie S. Mickell. She reportedly lived in a senior housing high-rise just a few blocks away from the crash site.

Police have not issued any citations in connection with the crash.
