Chicago Bulls guard Coby White opens up about Zach LaVine trade: 'Sadness'

The dust is still settling from the Luka Dončić and Anthony Davis trade on Saturday night that left the association shocked. It’s a reminder that no one is untouchable. Not even a mega superstar like now-Lakers forward Dončić.

Plenty of buzz still surrounds the Chicago Bulls this week with the trade deadline approaching Thursday. We saw another blockbuster trade shortly after that involving Zach LaVine who was shipped out to Sacramento as part of a three-team deal.

"He's been here since I've been here," White said "He’s watched me grow."

It’s an organizational shift that Coby White has certainly felt. He hasn't played in the NBA without having LaVine as a teammate.

The two were very close off the court. White shared earlier today that his favorite memory was meeting Zach’s oldest son, Saint, when he was born in 2022.

"My initial reaction was sadness," White said. "He’s always had my back, no matter what."

But despite all the uncertainty within the next two days due to the trade deadline, White says reminding himself that he’s doing what he loves gives him the perspective and comfort he needs, no matter if he remains a Bull or not.

He said he'd be willing to stick with the Bulls even in the middle of a rebuild.

"That’s up to the front office and how they view me and what not," White said. "We have a lot of young talent… I love it here."

The deadline is Thursday at 2 p.m. The Bulls start a back-to-back set of games Tuesday as they get ready to take on a Miami Heat team competing for a playoff spot. The Bulls are clinging onto the 10th seed in the East and have lost 7 of their last 10.
