Fire let Yallop go as coach, hire Rodriguez as GM
BRIDGEVIEW, Ill. (AP) — The Chicago Fire have dismissed coach Frank Yallop and hired MLS executive Nelson Rodriguez as general manager.
Technical director Brian Bliss will serve as interim coach for the final five games.
The shakeup announced Sunday comes with the Fire at league-worst 7-16-6. Besides parting ways with Yallop, who was 13-26-24 in nearly two seasons with Chicago, the Fire let go of assistants Marc Bircham and Clint Mathis.
Rodriguez, a former Chivas USA and MLS executive, is scheduled to join the organization Oct. 19 and will lead the coaching search.
