Chicago weather: Cold air, single-digit temps on the way

Cold air is coming our way this weekend and into the start of the workweek.

Fox 32 Meteorologist Mark Strehl has the forecast.

Bitter cold on the way!

Timeline:

It is January, so we're talking about some serious cold air.

After a high of 27 degrees on Saturday, the thermometer will plummet starting on Sunday. There will be a high of 6 degrees.

The frigid cold won't stop there.

Monday will see a high of 9 degrees and Tuesday might only get up to 4 degrees.

It's the overnight cold temperatures that will fall to about 5 degrees below zero. Wind chills will range from anywhere between negative 10 degrees to as low as 25 degrees below zero!

Still, there will be some sunshine in the Chicago area and no major storms are on the horizon.

Temps rise later in the week

What's next:

The frigid temps will only be temporary.

Wednesday the high will return to the low 20s and by the end of the week, highs should hover around 30 degrees.
