Bridgeport sandwich shop home to greatest sandwich in the world

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - What’s the best sandwich you’ve ever had?

Maybe you found it while travelling around the world, or maybe it’s one like mom used to make. But what if we told you this small Bridgeport shop was home to the holy sandwich grail?

USA Today has called the breaded steak sandwich of Ricobene's the single greatest sandwich on the planet!

Sam Ricobene and his family know a lot about hard work. For decades now, they’ve been feeding folks the kind of stick-to-the-ribs succulent sustenance you can only find in Chicago.

But in 1976, things changed. That’s when Sam’s father started serving the breaded steak sandwich. A colossal slab of breaded steak, a mound of gooey mozzarella, a sprinkle of biting giardiniera, all resting on a piping hot hero roll.

It’s the sort of thing that warms the heart and slows it down all at the same time.

They sling out around 600 a day, which would make any shop owner happy.

But then, earlier this year, USA Today declared it the best sandwich in the world – a fact they proudly display in their window.

In fact, slide in around lunch time and you’ll be hard pressed to find a person who isn’t devouring one. That’s the thing about hard work – sometimes the benefits just taste so good.
