Armed person in custody after shots fired by police in North Lawndale
CHICAGO (Sun-Times Media Wire) - A person was arrested Thursday afternoon after pointing a gun at a Chicago Police officer, prompting that officer to open fire in the North Lawndale neighborhood on the Southwest Side, police said.
Officers spotted the individual with a handgun at 1:26 p.m. in the 1600 block of South Harding, according to Chicago Police.
The person pointed the weapon at an officer, who then discharged his weapon, police said. No one was struck.
The person was eventually taken into custody and a weapon was recovered at the scene, police said. Charges were pending Thursday afternoon.
The Independent Police Review Authority is investigating the shooting, according to agency spokeswoman Mia Sissac.
