Armed robbery suspects arrested after South Side chase

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News/ STMW) - Two suspects in a number of recent North Side armed robberies and a carjacking were arrested after a police pursuit overnight on the South Side.

Area Central and Area North detectives were conducting a covert operation monitoring a white Jeep connected to several armed robberies and a carjacking when the Jeep was spotted on the Kennedy Expressway near Ohio at 12:15 a.m., police News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro said.

The Jeep was later seen in the 4900 block of South Prairie, at which point officers began to pursue it, Alfaro said.

Two people got out of the Jeep in the 5600 block of South Calumet and tried to run away on foot, Alfaro said. They were taken into custody and two weapons were recovered.

Chicago Police officials say the Jeep may have been used in a series of robberies, including one around midnight on Ohio Street.
