Chicago getting Wild for the Wild Card game

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Chicagoans, by nature, have a great passion for sports. But Wednesday, the city might be something even more special.

You can just feel the excitement as the Chicago Cubs have a do-or-die Wild Card game to start the playoffs. And even though the team will be Pittsburgh to play the game, police will be keeping an eye on everyone in Wrigleyville Wednesday night.

Fans and city officials in Wrigleyville say the area will be “crazy” Wednesday night for the game.

Earlier this week, dozens of local bar and business owners gathered at John Barleycorn’s on Clark Street to meet with Chicago Police, heads of city agencies, and 44th ward alderman Tom Tunney.

“We are ready for World Series-like night, and that's what we asked them to plan for," 44th Ward Alderman Tom Tunney said.

Among the security measures that will be in place Wednesday night, there will also be parking restrictions to limit people flooding into the neighborhood, booze in bars will be served in plastic cups-- no bottles-- strict adherence to occupancy permits, and the possibility of street closures depending on the size of the crowd.
