Chicago police say a 17-year-old boy has been arrested and charged in connection with a shooting on the city's northwest side that left a 6-year-old girl critically injured.

Police allege the teen drove up to a home and opened fire, striking the girl in the back, before fleeing. A statement issued Wednesday night says the 17-year-old was charged with one felony count of aggravated battery with a firearm.

The girl was shot around 8:10 p.m. Monday in the Logan Square neighborhood. She was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The suspect's name was not released, and no further details were immediately available.
