Edward Norton likely heading toward fourth Oscar nomination for role in 'A Complete Unknown'

Actor Edward Norton is likely on track to receive his fourth Oscar nomination for his performance in the Bob Dylan biopic "A Complete Unknown."

What we know:

The film showcases the early days of Dylan’s career, with Norton playing the iconic folk singer Pete Seeger.

Norton has already been nominated three times: for "Birdman," "American History X," and "Primal Fear."

Norton is considered one of the frontrunners in this year's Best Supporting Actor category, drawing praise for his portrayal of Seeger.

What they're saying:

In an interview with FOX 32 Entertainment Reporter Jake Hamilton, Norton discussed the advice he received throughout his career — much of which he chose to ignore.

When asked about advice he was glad he disregarded, Norton recalled being told by some people to take on a more commercial role than the one he chose for "American History X."

"That’s interesting," Norton said. "I remember having some pretty strong admonitions from certain people that I should do a much more commercial movie than 'American History X.'"

Norton recieved an Oscar nomination for Best Actor for the 1998 drama "American History X," in which he plays a former neo-Nazi who vowed to change and fix his life.

"I knew I wanted to make ‘American History X,’" said Norton. "I felt I still had the freedom to expand my own horizons and not get put in a box in terms of the way I was perceived as an actor."

What's next:

Norton’s portrayal of Pete Seeger in "A Complete Unknown" is now playing in theaters.
