Here's everything closing during Chicago's dangerous cold snap

CHICAGO (SUN TIMES MEDIA WIRE) - The lowest temperature ever recorded in Chicago is minus-27, but the city might break that record on Wednesday and Thursday.

Due to safety concerns during this dangerous cold snap, many places in and around the city will be closed. Here’s a list of places that will be closed this week, and when Chicagoans can expect them to open back open.

SCHOOLS
Chicago Public Schools announced Monday night that schools will be closed Wednesday, when sub-zero temperatures and potentially record-setting windchill values are expected to push through the area. The school district followed up Tuesday night to cancel classes Thursday, as well.

Namaste Charter School will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

Oak Park and River Forest High School will be closed Wednesday and Thursday.

COLLEGES AND UNIVERSITIES
University of Illinois at Chicago has canceled classes from 5 p.m. Tuesday to 12 p.m. Thursday.

Classes at University of Chicago have been canceled for Wednesday.

Both Evanston and Chicago campuses of Northwestern University will be closed from 8 p.m. Tuesday to 12 p.m. Thursday. Dining halls will remain open.

Classes at DePaul University have been canceled for Tuesday evening, Wednesday and Thursday.

Columbia College Chicago will close at 6 p.m. Tuesday and remain closed on Wednesday.

Roosevelt University classes have been canceled starting at 6 p.m. Tuesday and all day Wednesday.

City Colleges of Chicago has canceled all classes after 7 p.m. Tuesday and all classes on Wedesday. Facilities will close at 10 p.m. Tuesday.

The School of the Art Institute will close at 10 p.m. on Tuesday and reopen at noon on Thursday. All campus buildings including the Gene Siskel Film Center and Sullivan Galleries will be closed.

The Chicago School of Professional Psychology will be closed from 6 p.m. Tuesday to 8 a.m. Thursday.

North Park University will be closed on Wednesday. Dining halls will remain open.

ATTRACTIONS
Navy Pier will be closed Wednesday.

Shedd Aquarium will be closed Wednesday.

The Field Museum will close at 2 p.m. Tuesday and remain closed Wednesday.

The Art Institute of Chicago will be closed Wednesday.

Adler Planetarium will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday.

The Museum of Science and Industry announced it would be closed Wednesday.

The Brookfield Zoo will be closed on Wednesday and Thursday, but plans on reopening Friday.

Lincoln Park Zoo is closing early Tuesday, at 3 p.m., and will stay closed Wednesday.

Chicago Botanic Garden will be closed on Wednesday.

Lillstreet Art Center will close Tuesday at 5 p.m. and reopen Friday at 9:30 a.m.

PUBLIC TRANSPORTATION
Metra trains will run on a modified schedule Wednesday. Visit the transit agency’s website for updated schedules.

Pace has canceled its paratransit subscription service between Tuesday and Thursday. All paratransit riders, including those who typically have subscription trips, must call in the day before their trip to make a reservation during that stretch.

All Amtrak trains going to and from Chicago Wednesday are canceled. All short-distance trains and most long-distance trains to and from Chicago Thursday are also canceled.

SERVICES AND INSTITUTIONS
All Secretary of State facilities will be closed Wednesday, and possibly Thursday. Visit cyberdriveillinois.com for updates.

The Loop Super Site early voting location at 175 W. Washington Ave. will be closed Wednesday.

The Circuit Court of Cook County will be closed Wednesday and Thursday. All cases set for Wednesday and Thursday will be rescheduled and no court will be in session, with the exception of bail hearings and certain pretrial matters for in-custody defendants at the Leighton Criminal Court Building in Chicago and juvenile detention hearings at the Juvenile Center in Chicago.

Several Social Security Offices will be closed Wednesday.
