Illinois Amber Alert: 3-month-old boy found safe

Authorities safely located 3-month-old Silas Lennarella on Thursday, one day after an Amber Alert was issued when Grundy County deputies were unable to find him.

What we know:

On Wednesday, the alert was issued after deputies discovered Silas was missing. According to authorities, Silas’ mother had lost custody of him to his father.

Detectives traveled to Aurora to speak with the mother’s relatives in hopes of locating the child, but they were unable to determine his whereabouts.

On Thursday afternoon, Silas was turned over to authorities, bringing joy and relief to the Grundy County Sheriff’s Office.

What they're saying:

"My chief deputy sent me a picture with our detective holding the baby and it just made me smile… this baby's just gorgeous," said Grundy County Sheriff Ken Briley. "The baby's in great health. Good looking little fella, so it means a lot to them."

Sheriff Briley is reminding the public that anyone struggling or in need of someone to talk to can call 988, a national mental health hotline.
