Trio's Pizza burglarized again in Northwest Side break-ins
CHICAGO - Three businesses on Chicago's Northwest Side fell victim to a string of break-ins early Thursday morning, with five masked suspects caught on surveillance video damaging doors and stealing from a neighborhood pizza shop.
Northwest Side burglaries
What we know:
The crime spree began around 1:40 a.m. on the 7000 block of West Higgins Avenue in the Union Ridge neighborhood. Surveillance footage shows the suspects using a large rock to shatter the glass door of Trio’s Pizza, a local favorite that reopened just five months ago.
"They trashed the lobby, stole the register, and then hit the other businesses," said owner Aleks Damnjanovic.
The burglars moved next door to Roberto’s Jewelers before attempting to enter Elite Total Rehab, a chiropractic office across the street. Police said they damaged the front door of the chiropractor but failed to get through the second door.
The suspects fled in a silver sedan after the break-ins, possibly spooked by an alarm at the business.
What we don't know:
No arrests have been made, and authorities have not released any details about the suspects beyond the surveillance footage.
It’s unclear if the break-ins are connected to other recent burglaries in the area.
Local perspective:
For the Damnjanovics, the incident is a painful repeat. Their pizza shop was also burglarized in November, just three months after reopening.
"This time, they only got some spare change," said Tuyen Damnjanovic, who added that they had a sign warning there was no cash in the register.
The couple expressed gratitude for community support in the aftermath. "Everybody has been so supportive—it means a lot," Aleks said.
