NW Indiana crime: 1 killed, 1 hurt in shooting at antiques store, police say

A female victim was killed, and a woman was hurt in a shooting at a Northwest Indiana antiques store on Saturday evening.

What we know:

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office responded to the Karmic Sunshine shop in the 2900 block of W. 181st Ave. in unincorporated Lowell around 7 p.m. for the shooting, according to the Lake County Sheriff’s Office.

Investigators learned that a 62-year-old male suspect shot and killed a female victim inside the store and wounded a 24-year-old woman who tried to escape, police said.

The suspect is believed to have then died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

A young child and another man were in the shop during the shooting and were not injured.

There was no remaining danger to the public, police said.

The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the shooting.

What we don't know:

Police did not identify the victims or the gunman. It was unclear if the gunman and the victims knew each other.
