Cook County woman crashes car while fleeing Oak Brook police; accomplice charged with stealing mail
OAK BROOK, Ill. - A Cook County woman is facing charges after fleeing police and crashing her vehicle, following an incident where her co-defendant allegedly stole mail from several mailboxes in Oak Brook, according to prosecutors.
Tiffany Main, 32, of Arlington Heights, faces two felony counts of aggravated fleeing and eluding and one misdemeanor count of driving with a revoked license.
Her co-defendant, Patryk Zubrzcki, 41, of River Grove, faces charges of possession of methamphetamine, three counts of identity theft, and one count of misdemeanor fleeing and eluding.
What we know
The charges stem from a traffic stop that occurred around 1:44 a.m. Thursday in the Timber Trails subdivision.
Oak Brook police were investigating a vehicle with suspended license plates in the area.
An officer located the suspects' vehicle parked on Timber Trail Drive. As the officer approached, Zubrzcki allegedly turned on the car and drove past the officer.
At that time, the officer activated his emergency lights and siren.
Instead of pulling over, Zubrzcki allegedly continued to drive toward the entrance of the subdivision, but turned around when he saw the other officer stationed there.
Zubrzcki then drove through the neighborhood before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot, prosecutors said.
He was arrested after a brief chase and was found to be in possession of approximately 3.7 grams of methamphetamine, authorities said.
After Zubrzcki fled, Main allegedly moved into the driver’s seat and attempted to escape. She drove over spike strips placed by police, which deflated one tire.
Main continued to flee, reportedly driving on the wrong side of the road at times.
Main’s vehicle was also struck by a pursuing squad car when she abruptly stopped, prosecutors said.
She then drove over additional spike strips, deflating all remaining tires, but continued driving until she crashed into a cement median at 22nd Street and Butterfield Road.
After the crash, Main allegedly attempted to flee on foot but was captured following a brief pursuit.
Evidence and Court Proceedings
A search of the vehicle revealed multiple pieces of mail stolen from residents of Timber Trail Drive, as well as mail from addresses in Mount Prospect, Arlington Heights, and Bensenville, prosecutors said.
Zubrzcki was released after a court appearance as his charges are non-detainable under current Illinois law. A judge granted the state’s motion to detain Main pending trial.
Both defendants are scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 3.
