Original 'Winnie the Pooh' book turns 90

FOX 13 NEWS - Winnie the Pooh looks pretty good for 90 years old. Maybe it's all the "hunny"?
A. A. Milne's first book of stories about the beloved children's character was published on October 14, 1926. The book "Winnie-the-Pooh" included nearly all of the characters we know and love today: Piglet, Eeyore, Owl, Rabbit, Kanga, Roo, and of course Pooh Bear. Bouncy pal Tigger did not actually appear until the next book, 1928's "The House at Pooh Corner."
Portions of the book were adapted from previously published stories, according to Wikipedia. The first chapter, for instance, was adapted from "The Wrong Sort of Bees," a story published in the London Evening News in its issue for Christmas Eve 1925.
The book has been translated into many languages, even Latin, but most people are familiar with Disney's adaptations of the tales. Disney began acquiring rights to the stories and characters back in 1961, leading to the pudgy, red-shirted Pooh look that generations of fans grew up watching.
There have been five Winnie the Pooh feature films, no less than 10 television specials, and a number of other direct to video features. But for true Pooh fans, the original stories from Milne's earliest works are the most charming of all.
