Person in custody after SWAT responds to Logan Square building
FOX 32 / SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A person was in custody Tuesday night after Chicago Police surrounded a Logan Square building in connection with an earlier armed robbery on the Northwest Side.
It started at 10:45 a.m. at the corner of Diversey and Milwaukee in the Logan Square neighborhood. Police say a young man held up an AT&T store there, then ran inside an apartment building in the 3200 block of West Diversey. Neighbors say he lives there with his mom and siblings.
It’s a busy street, but traffic came to a halt when the SWAT team moved in to negotiate with the armed robber.
"It's very scary because of the kids, I got kids with me. There's other kids. It's been a long day Kids are across the street waiting for everything to be over,” said Jimmy Rodriguez, neighbor.
Jimmy Rodriguez lives in the building. The SWAT team cleared everyone out as police negotiated toward a peaceful end. They finally got it about eight hours later. Just after 7 p.m., neighbors say police walked out with the suspect in handcuffs. They were thankful that nobody got hurt.
"It just really melted my heart , it really did. When I seen this young man's face, it just really melted my heart because I speak to him every day, he speaks to me, he's very respectable,” said Angela Branch, neighbor.
Charges were pending, police said.
