Several Chicago area restaurants affected by credit card data breach

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - Several Chicago and suburban restaurants may be affected by a massive data breach.

Landry's restaurants revealed at least one dozen restaurant chains could have been hit when credit card information was taken.

Some of the restaurants could have been affected as early as may of 2014. For others, the breach may have happened from from may to December of 2015.

Here is a list of the restaurants affected in the Chicago area: 

  • Bubba Gump Shrimp
  • Capis Italian Kitchen (now closed)
  • Claim Jumper
  • Mastro's...
  • McCormick and Schmick's
  • Morton's Steakhouse'
  • Rainforest Cafe

Landry's announced this data breach last December, but  didn't know the magnitude of restaurants affected. The restaurant conglomerate has more than 500 locations around the country.

Enhanced security measures, including end-to-end encryption, have been implemented at the company to prevent a similar issue from occurring in the future. 

Landry's claims it will now begin notifying customers who may have been affected, but asks people to be vigilant in checking your credit card or bank statements.
