Shootout at South Side apartment complex ends in arrest

An argument escalated into a shootout at an apartment complex in Parkway Gardens on Sunday evening.

The backstory:

A 29-year-old man was shot during a verbal altercation that escalated into gunfire at an apartment complex in the 6500 block of South King Drive on Sunday evening, according to Chicago police.

The shooting happened around 8:28 p.m. when a 29-year-old man got into a confrontation with three other men at the apartment complex in the 6500 block of South King Drive, police said. Gunfire was exchanged, and the 29-year-old was struck twice in the leg.

Paramedics treated the man at the scene before he was transported to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where he was reported in good condition.

A weapon was recovered at the scene, and the 29-year-old was taken into custody. Police reported no other injuries in the incident.

Area One detectives are investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
