Suspect in custody after exchanging gunfire with cops on South Side

SUN-TIMES MEDIA WIRE - A person who barricaded himself inside a South Side home for three hours Thursday afternoon after exchanging gunfire with Chicago Police has been taken into custody.

Officers responded at 12:26 p.m. to a call of a person with a gun in the 7600 block of South Lowe and saw two males run into a building, according to Chicago Police.

The officers were followed the males when one of them turned and fired at an officer, police said. Officers returned fire, but no one was injured.

A SWAT team responded to the scene and one of the males was taken into custody about 3:30 p.m., police said. Charges were pending Friday evening.

The other male was not located, police said.
