Former NHL star training local hockey players

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - The greatest hockey players of all time have to start somewhere.

Because talent is something that should be strengthened and perfected, not taken for granted.

And at the Glacier Ice Arena in Vernon Hills, tucked away behind the stands, lies the training ground for the next generation.

Director of hockey development Steve Dubinsky knows a little about what it takes to succeed on the ice.

He spent a decade in the NHL, most of that time with the Blackhawks.

But now he’s training the next generation of players in a state of the art facility unlike any other place in the state.

An ice skating treadmill, a timed sprinting track, a shooting gallery – a sum of parts that add up to the kind of facility that Steve wishes he had when he played for the Hawks.

Every single player in the NHL started out as just a kid on the ice.

And for these kids, using one of the top training facilities in the state, the dream of pros is a distant but very real one.

Because everyone has to start somewhere.

So why not here?
