3 injured in Englewood blaze
CHICAGO - Firefighters battled a blaze Monday at a home in Englewood on the South Side.
Crews responded about 8:15 p.m. to a call of a fire at a home with people trapped inside in the 5800 block of South Peoria Street, Deputy District Fire Chief John Giordano told reporters at the scene.
A 41-year-old woman escaped the flames by jumping out of a first floor window, Giordano said. She was taken to the University of Chicago Medical Center in fair-to-serious condition.
Firefighters carried a 66-year-old man and a 70-year-old woman from inside the home, Giordano said. They were taken to the same hospital in serious-to-critical condition.
“After we made our initial attack, the fire took off on us a little bit,” Giordano said. There was “heavy fire up in the attic which is always in issue.”
But, crews extinguished the fire by 9 p.m. and no other injuries were reported, Giordano said.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
