Alabama Sheriff's Office Pulls ‘Blessed are the Peacemakers' Decals from Patrol Cars
HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. - An Alabama sheriff has removed “Blessed are the peacemakers” decals from back of his patrol cars after an out-of-state group threatened legal action.
The Dothan Eagle reported that Houston County officials asked Sheriff Donald Valenza to remove the decals after receiving the complaint.
The decals had the words “Blessed are the Peacemakers” circling around the logo of the Houston County Sheriff’s badge with "Matthew 5:9" listed underneath the badge.
The county had received two letters from Americans United for Separation of Church and State, based in Washington, demanding the decals be removed.
The county said the sheriff removed the decals voluntarily, but online supporters of the decal have started a Facebook page called “I support Blessed are the Peacemakers on the Houston County Sheriff’s cars”.
