Coyote caught in Chicago Aldi to be released from rehab center

The coyote that was found and removed from an Aldi store in Humboldt Park earlier this month will soon be released back into the wild.

The Flint Creek Wildlife Rehabilitation facility in northwest suburban Barrington posted the update and photo of the coyote on Monday.

The facility said in its post that the animal is in a large outdoor enclosure and is "eating great." He was not injured when he was captured.

Coyote found at Aldi

The backstory:

The coyote was discovered hiding in the cold food section of the Aldi in Humboldt Park on Jan. 13.

Chicago Animal Care and Control responded and safely removed the coyote. It was unclear exactly how the animal got into the store in the first place.

The CACC pointed out that coyote mating season spans January through March. That’s when the animals are more active as they search for mates and establish territories.

Officials urged residents to take steps to minimize interactions with wildlife, particularly during coyote mating season. Anyone who encounters a coyote is advised to stay calm, make noise, and back away slowly without running.
