Chicago-area rain causes flight delays, flood advisory
CHICAGO (STMW) - Rain storms across the Chicago area caused flight delays Tuesday afternoon and prompted forecasters to warn about the possibility for floods.
The National Weather Service issued an urban and small stream flood advisory until 4 p.m. Tuesday for the Chicago region and northwest Indiana.
Airlines at O’Hare International Airport canceled more than 180 flights and were experiencing delays of at least 35 minutes, according to the city’s Department of Aviation. Airlines at Midway International Airport were delayed at least 90 minutes.
Forecasters warned of heavy rainfall that will cause ponding of water on highways, streets, underpasses and in low-lying spots. Motorists should not drive vehicles into areas where the water covers the roadway, according to the weather service.
