Chicago Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards and the Thomas Law Office bring holiday cheer to family in need
CHICAGO - Chicago’s Lake View neighborhood was filled with happy faces and heartfelt gratitude on Monday.
Inside the Gantz Boys and Girls Club, Christmas came early for a family of six.
"It’s been really hard, but the hardest thing is dealing with my brothers that have seizures a lot, and I have to be the one to step up and help them," said 15-year-old Madeline.
Madeline's father recently lost a leg due to diabetes, and her mother, Alicia, is the primary caregiver, juggling hospital visits while trying to stay employed.
On Monday, the family received a much-needed respite from their challenges. More than 20 gifts were presented to them, courtesy of Chicago Bears linebacker T.J. Edwards in partnership with the Thomas Law Office.
"Yeah, it’s what the holidays are all about right ... just spending quality time with really good people," said Edwards. "When there’s a family that doesn’t have what they need, it makes us feel good to give them things they wouldn’t have an opportunity to have."
The children’s gifts included a computer, an iPad, soccer balls, cleats and gift cards.
Edwards also spent time signing mini footballs, creating a moment of joy for the family, all of it reminding them that brighter days are ahead.
