CHICAGO (STMW) - The Chicago Skyway has reopened after being shut down most of the day Thursday because of high winds.

Northbound and southbound lanes of the Skyway (I-90) were shut down between 91st Street and 106th Street about 2:20 a.m. because of heavy winds, according to Chicago Police. Some of the metal roofing covering the Skyway bridge could be seen dislodged and flapping in the wind.

All lanes reopened at 2:30 p.m., in time for the evening commute, police said.

A wind advisory remains in effect for the Chicago area until 6 p.m. Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. Sustained westerly winds between 25 and 35 mph, with gusts up to 50 mph could cause property damage and make driving difficult.

A few flights at O’Hare and Midway were experiencing delays of more than 30 minutes, according to the city’s Dept. of Aviation, but no major cancellations have been reported.
