Chicago's Field Museum to exhibit China's terra-cotta army
CHICAGO (AP) — Chicago's Field Museum has announced an exhibition made up of China's terra-cotta army of ancient clay figures will open at the Field Museum in March.
The museum indicated the exhibition, "China's First Emperor and His Terracotta Warriors" will display more than 170 objects, including 10 of the large-scale clay figures associated with the reign of Qin Shihuangdi more than 2,200 years ago.
Museum spokesman Ray De Thorne on Wednesday told the Chicago Tribune the Chinese limit how often it they allow the terra-cotta figures out of the country. He said the Field Museum expects "big numbers" to view the exhibit, organized with the Emperor Qin Shihuang's Terracotta Army Museum.
The terra-cotta army was discovered by farmers in 1974, and excavation has been taking place since.
Curator Deborah Bekken says the exhibit to be in place through January 2017 will be different from what has been in the U.S.
