Cupich calls for unity, prayer after Nice attack
CHICAGO (AP) - Chicago Archbishop Blase Cupich is calling on people to honor the victims of the truck attack in Nice, France, to show unity rather than giving in to fear that he says can be divisive.
Cupich in a printed statement on Friday called the attack on crowds celebrating Bastille Day "yet another horrific act of terror." He said he joins the French in praying for those killed and injured and for their loved ones.
In the statement, Cupich said, "Let us not succumb to the temptation to despair or to a fear that divides us."
The attack happened Thursday as crowds were walking away from a fireworks display in the southern French city.
