Driver flees Joliet crash that left 1 man hospitalized; may be linked to bar fight: police
JOLIET, Ill. - Authorities are searching for a driver who fled the scene of an overnight crash in Joliet that left one man hospitalized.
The individuals involved in the crash may also be connected to a fight that occurred at a local bar prior to the incident.
What we know
Joliet police were called just before 3 a.m. Sunday to the area of North Chicago Street and Benton Street for a crash with injuries.
A Chevrolet Aveo, driven by a 34-year-old Joliet man, and a Saturn Aura with an unidentified driver were traveling southbound on North Chicago Street when the crash occurred.
The Saturn hit the back of the Chevrolet, causing the Chevrolet to roll over near the southwest corner of the intersection, police said.
The driver of the Saturn got out of the vehicle and ran from the scene before police arrived.
Authorities said the driver of the Chevrolet had minor injuries and declined transportation to the hospital.
A passenger in the Chevrolet, a 43-year-old Joliet man, was extricated from the vehicle and transported to St. Joseph Medical Center. He is in critical but stable condition, police said.
The driver of the Saturn is still on the run and has not been located.
Crash may be linked to bar fight
Police said the individuals involved in the crash may have been involved in a fight at Los Gavenos bar, located at 1101 N. Hickory St., but the incident remains under investigation.
The roadway was temporarily closed as officers worked the scene.
