First freeze likely Friday night

CHICAGO (FOX 32 News) - So far it’s been a mild fall, but that’s all about to change Friday as cold Canadian high pressure builds in. In fact, not one location in the entire state of Illinois has seen its first freeze of the fall.

Skies will remain clear Friday night into Saturday morning along with light winds. This will allow cold air to settle in with a few spots west of the Fox River dropping into the upper 20s.

Temperatures will quickly rebound to near normal values early next week with possibly a few spots around 70.

After this brief cold snap, temps look to remain above normal through days 8 through 14.

The last time Chicago saw a low temperature below 40 degrees was May 20th and the last time the mercury dropped below 32 degrees was April 24th.

Chicago’s O’Hare normally sees its first fall freeze around October 13th with Midway around October 23rd.

The earliest freeze on record dates back to September 22nd, 1995. The latest first freeze on record occurred on November 24th, 1931.
